Sokoto - Mamman Sule, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in
charge of Zone 10, Sokoto, on Tuesday said that 146 armed robbery
suspects were arrested in 2013.
Sule told newsmen in Sokoto that 57 armed robbery suspects were arrested in Kebbi command alone in the period.
He said that the suspects had since been charged to court.
Sule said that the command also received 43 armed robbery cases from different parts of Sokoto.
The police chief said that the command recovered three AK47 rifles, one paramol pistol, 10 locally-made pistols, two dane guns, and eight rounds of 9 mm short caliber guns.
He said that the Kebbi command also recovered 11 stolen vehicles from the Republic of Benin and Niger Republic.
"We have released the vehicles to the Nigerien and Benin Republic authorities through the Interpol Office," Sule said.
He said that the command also recovered and handed over N7.5 million out of the N12 million stolen from a Chinese firm.
Sule said that in Zamfara Police Command prosecuted 84 cases in 2013.
He said that the police intercepted four AK 47 rifles; four locally-made pistols; one double barreled guns; six locally-made dane guns; two long and three short locally-made dane guns and 34 live ammunitions, among others.
He said that the command also recovered 2 462 cows, 139 sheep, 234 goats and six donkeys from cattle rustlers.
Sule said that in 2013, some pockets of attacks by armed bandits were recorded, which resulted in the death of 60 people at Kizara village in Zamfara.
He said that in Sokoto State, two armed robbery suspects were arrested and charged to court.
Sule said that the command also lost three of its personnel to armed bandits in Tureta Local Government Area.
There was also an attack in Isa Police Division, where 69 arms were carted away, adding that nine of them had been recovered.
